Twelve dead including famous singer in plane crash off remote island

They watched the plane rise—and then twist violently toward the sea.
In seconds, a routine takeoff turned into a deadly spiral off Roatan Island’s coast.
A fisherman says he nearly died as the aircraft plunged toward him.
Rescuers are battling rocks, waves, and time itself to reach the wreckage bef… Continues…

Civil aviation official Carlos Padilla said the aircraft “made a sharp turn to the right of the runway and fell into the water” just moments after takeoff from Roatán Island. What should have been a brief, uneventful climb into the sky became a nightmare unfolding in front of stunned onlookers. Among them was a local fisherman, who described how he narrowly escaped being struck as the plane slammed into the sea beside his boat, the roar of the engines replaced by screams and breaking metal.

Roatán Fire captain Franklin Borjas explained that even reaching the crash site has been a battle. Rough seas smash against nearly 30 meters (98 feet) of sharp rocks, turning every rescue attempt into a life-threatening gamble. Crews can neither walk nor swim in, forced instead to fight the surf by boat and rope, searching for survivors in water that still churns with fuel, debris, and the memory of those final, desperate seconds.
